Great advice! That left hook's been bruising me for a while!
There was a movie a few years ago titled "Million Dollar Baby". It won several Oscars and starred Hilary Swank as a female boxer under the tutelage of her trainer played by Clint Eastwood. Anyway, there's a chapter in the movie where Clint's character finally agrees to train "Maggie" and the following monologue ensues (spoken by Morgan Freeman's character):
"To make a fighter, you gotta strip 'em down to bare wood. You can't just tell them to forget everything that they know. You gotta make them forget it in their bones. Make 'em so tired they only listen to you. Only hear your voice. Only do what you say and nothing else. [You show them how to fight], then show them all over again. Over and over. 'Til they think they were born that way."
We, apparently, have to be stripped down to bare wood to really begin to pay attention to that voice in the corner. I can make it a few rounds on my own, but after that, you may as well throw in the towel. The call for us to be led by the Spirit requires that we subject ourselves to His training, knowing that everything that comes is ultimately for our good and according to His plan. After all, we've got the preeminent "cut man" in the business in our corner!

Great comment Todd! I saw the movie and it was a powerful one. I remember thinking that Maggie had to learn to fight in order to survive her life. She found her true family was someone outside the corner she grew up in. I love the "bare wood" idea. Thanks for commenting.

OK, that's a good story and a great metaphor, but you literally made me hurl with the ripping of the skin! Think there's anything you can relate that too?
Cya soon!

Eddie

Thanks Song! Yeah it was a pretty intense site. I felt macho-macho as a teenager when it happened. Though I did feel for my friend. However, and honestly, he was trying to rip the skin off my face, so.... Well, so much for my stint at boxing. Now a days it is a different kind of gloves in a different kind of fight. Onward to victory!
