"I have come to see that in my particular “stream”... of Christianity, we have perhaps overemphasized our being made in the image of God ... and underemphasized our humanness."

Well said, Mikki. I discovered this three years ago when a Christian organization expected me to be entirely like Jesus. They allowed no room for humaness or differing opinions. Have human emotions? You're in error! Have human weaknesses? You're unworthy! Can't forget sinful injustices? You're condemned!

How could I possibly be like Jesus in my every move and being? I indeed strive to be like Jesus, but to claim to be just like Him, or even to claim to "have Him in me" is blasphemy. I am merely a child of Jesus, not Jesus himself, nor do I have His power, nor can I invoke His power here on earth. Only the Holy Spirit can bring His power to earth. Not I, a mere mortal.

When we claim to have the power of the Holy Spirit in us, or claim to receive the power of the Holy Spirit by spending time in prayer, then we are trying to dictate to the Father when and where He should bridge the gap between this world and His world. How dare we?

Sometimes super-spiritual Christians are blinded by their OWN spritualness as they adopt a 'holier than thou' attitude because the Lord has used them in His work here on earth. I don't remember reading that Paul ever did that. Perhaps we should strive to be more like Paul ... perhaps that is a more reasonable and human goal.
